1. Preface Analysis (Reading Quiz) DUE BY 10:30AM on schoology
- What is Phillips' purpose in writing this letter? Use and cite details from the text to support your response.
- What is the purpose of including this letter in the beginning of the narrative?
In addition to reading Douglass's autobiography, we are going to work on a timely and relevant project that combines current, globally life-changing events and media literacy. I think understanding and addressing the barrage of information we are receiving at this point in time will provide you with important skills that you will continue to use in college and in life.
Let's begin this project by thinking about all the information we are absorbing from the media regarding the racial tensions, police brutality, protests and socio-political movements, and structural racism that is at the forefront of our current times. This project will focus on a timely topic that impacts all of us right at this moment. You will have the opportunity to think about media and information as well as research and analyze news based on your own interests.
For this project, you and a partner will choose a specific topic, research, discuss, research more, and present about the media's representation of the micro-issue of your choice. We will discuss the presentation rubric and requirements of the project in weeks to come.
Today, you will do the following:
1. I want you to consider the words "bias," "credibility," and "perspective." Please define these terms in your own words as you understand them. Then compose a few sentences that propose how these terms might connect to the news and media right now.
